Marimba Workshops with Robin Layne
I encourage folks to sign up for one or two workshops. Each workshop will cover the basics of playing and will focus on learning a different song.
I am offering 1 all levels workshop and 2 intermediate level courses. If you’ve taken marimba before, have some keyboard experience, or took the last workshops with me in the spring you are encouraged to register for the intermediate level. Marimbas and mallets will be provided
$30 for one workshop
$55 for two workshops
$75 for all three
Max: 12 participants per workshop due to the amount of instruments. If you have access to your own instrument then possibly more participants could be added.
La Bamba – 10:00-11:15 pm – Level 1
Learn the basics of playing the marimba in this fun workshop, which will focus on learning a traditional song from Mexico. You will get a chance to try different parts, work together as a group, and experience the joy of playing marimba! The marimba and it’s kin are one of the world’s oldest melodic instruments and it is also one of the more accessible ways to get into playing melodies and rhythms as all you have to do is strike the note with your mallet and you get a sweet sound.
El Sapo – 11:30-12:45 – Level 2
Learn the more melodies and rhythms on the marimba in this fun workshop, which will focus on learning a traditional song from Mexico.
