West African Drum/Dance with Koca

Hello Friends of Rhythm!
Gentle reminder that we still have the August Drum/Dance camp with Koca coming up soon! Please contact me to pre-register if you haven’t already — there is still space in most of the classes 🙂
Here are the details for the August African Drum/Dance camps led by my teacher, friend, mentor and amazing djembefola & griot, Koca!

DATESAugust 27 – 28, 2022
WHERERoyston Community Hall (at the lights on the Old Island Hwy)
HOWPre-registration is absolutely necessary. Please email Monica:
to hold your spot and pre-pay either in person or via snail mail (email Monica for details)
HOW MUCH$25 for one class, $20/class for two or more classes,               $150 for an entire weekend
DRUM RENTAL: if you require either a djembe or dun, rental of a drum is $5/drum/day
SPACE & DRUMS are LIMITED. Register early! 🙂
IMPORTANT NOTICE:  If you plan to register for the ensemble class on Sunday, please note that only those who have taken BOTH dun classes will be allowed to play duns in ensemble. Djembe players are welcome whether you join in on one or both days but please note that in the spirit of “camp style” instruction, the second day is a continuation of the first so you will have missed some instruction. Also, “advanced” means you have previous instruction in African drumming under your belt; Koca will not be going over basics in these classes – you will not be given individual instruction but, having said that, anyone who is up for a challenge is welcome in the djembe classes. Dun classes, however, will likely be reserved for those with some experience, depending on registration numbers. And “beginners” is not just for beginners: Everyone can benefit from more time with a master djembe player! For dance classes, please wear suitable clothing and bring water; you are going to sweat & get thirsty while having a blast moving your bodies!
