With consideration for what is happening with B.C.’s Covid-19 issues (still a public health emergency), it is my opinion that it would be prudent that the Goose Spit Drummers limit the risk of exposure to themselves or others to the Coronavirus.
There is just too much that we do not know about this new health issue to take any chances of spreading to our close friends. A drum circle in Vancouver has been under sharp scrutiny for its ill regard for B.C. safety measures. It can take just one person (that unknowing has it ) to pass it on.
I will not be attending Sunday’s beach drum circles, and urge you to consider respecting others and not attend. I will monitor the constantly changing situation and will send out any updates through this email list. I had thought of the drummers wearing masks, not sharing instruments, and staying 6 feet apart, but would rather just not attend. There will be more opportunities in the future.
What to do while waiting for a reopening? One of my rhythm exercises I do is try to drum exactly to a metronome (get a cell phone app), it is a great exercise, especially if you think you have a “steady beat!”
It is a very difficult decision for me to make as the drum rhythms on Sunday are a highlight of my summer! It’s fun, it’s stimulating and it’s community-building. However I want to honour my own ‘bubble’ and not take any chances of passing on the virus. Apparently it can be much, much more than “just a flu”. Three hours of enjoyment on a Sunday evening is just not worth the risk at this time. My own and my friends’ health is top priority.
Thank you for respecting /honouring the health of yourself and those you are in contact with.
Love, respect, and healing vibes…..
